Research Methodology
• User Interviews: Interviewing users and receiving their feedback on their applications of choice. By using interviews, we gain a firsthand understanding of what tools are being used, users’ favorite and least favorite features, and the pros and cons of these applications as defined by users.
• Competitive Analysis: Competitor analysis is an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of current and potential competitors. This analysis provides both an offensive and defensive strategic context to identify opportunities and threats. It gives an idea of the standard of what is currently utilized within the field of applicant tracking, recruitment, and requisition management.
• Participatory Design: Designing, whiteboarding, and brainstorming with the product owner(s) early in the process to collaborate on the vision for the project. This allows designers and developers to create the optimal experience that the owner intended for his or her project.
User Persona
By conducting user research, we were effectively able to create a user persona that encompassed many of the demographics that use similar applications

Key Research Insights
• Customer Service is just as important to users as User Interface
Customers repeatedly raved about competitors’ customer service response. It was a major highlight in the reviews. Almost all cons were solved or outweighed by their customer service experience. Quick responses and direct problem resolutions were reported most.
Candidate and Requisition Search
A major con was users’ experiences with search features. They often felt that there weren’t enough subcategories to choose from when searching and narrowing down those searches. Reports mention that not all searches would come up with what they were searching for. Being able to find what they’re looking for quickly was a huge factor is how reviews leaned.

Integration with Major Job Posting Sites
Lack of integration or removal of integration with any one major job posting site could create a major negative review of the application. Efficient integration was also important. Even if the product worked with all major job posting sites, if this wasn’t done efficiently, it would sometimes cause users to leave the subscription of the application altogether.

Customization of Dashboards
Users’ needs are often widely different. A common theme is that unused features resulted in unnecessary bulk. Reviewers wanted a way to customize their dashboards, or at the very least, be able to list them in the order of their choice.

Pricing
Pricing seemed to be a major factor in determining whether or not the customer would remain with the product. If the price was low enough by comparison and the app had standard features that worked generally well, customers were more likely to stay and less likely to be tempted to experiment with other companies. Basic, well-working, standard features are enough for most customers.

Communication with Team Members
Reduction in the amount of time used to keep team members up to speed was reported as a major pro with many users. Not having to leave the application for messaging, coupled with seeing updates at a glance, allowed users to speed up productivity and prioritize the actual hiring process.

Communication with Candidates
Being able to communicate with candidates and keep track of this communication was frequently mentioned. Most, if not all, team members would know the status of communication with candidates immediately. This removed another level of frequent time-sucking back and forth calling and messaging.

Resume Formatting and Integration
Users mentioned both positive and negative examples of resume formatting. It’s appreciated and time-saving when done well, and a major annoyance when done in a disorganized or difficult to read way. Resumes and their text should quickly and easily move from one format to another.

• At-a-Glance Candidate Information
To be able to see all candidate information on one screen was one of the frequently reported on features. Missing information on a candidate profile or having to go to another part of the program to see that candidate info, was a point of frustration. Users want to see all info at once in a clean way.
Mood Board
While trying to find the perfect mood, color scheme, and design, 3 mood boards were created. Out of the 3, 2 were chosen as winning boards and merged into the final mood board that the final design was based on.
Application Video
After 3 iterations (a low, medium, and high fidelity wireframe) the final design was rendered.
